Warehouse Operator - 2nd Shift

Department: Distribution 2nd
Location: Memphis, TN

Position Summary:

This position uses gas, electric, or liquid propane powered forklifts to collect, deliver, stack, load and unload a wide variety of materials, while adhering to good safety practices in carrying out duty. Must be proficient with forklift operations to include ability to stack and load pallets in warehouse locations as well as out bound trailers. Includes only those who operate a forklift as an essential part of their job duties. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Operations Supervisor and follows prescribed guidelines or procedures in the performance of work activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Transfers finished goods to designated areas and follows regulations to maintain “first in first out” system of picking
  • Replenishes picking locations to ensure daily work schedules are met.
  • Palletizes, wraps and transfers goods from either conveyer or elevator
  • Rotates stock and ensures a damage free environment.
  • Identifies and isolates non-conforming material.
  • Uses warehouse management system to track and document non-conforming material
  • Proficient forklift and pallet jack operator
  • Assists in maintaining vehicles and all other equipment in a clean and orderly manner
  • Maintains warehouse in a safe and orderly condition.
  • Assist in taking daily physical inventories as well as making systematic inventory transactions that have a financial impact.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with other employees
  • Performs truck loading and truck unloading, must follow intermodal procedures to insure proper blocking and bracing to avoid transportation regulatory complaints and financial impacts. Falure to follow proper blocking and bracing can range from monetary fines up to loosing ability to ship product.
  • Performs all work in accordance with Barr’s quality guidelines and procedures; demonstrates clear understanding of these quality objectives.
  • Performs other job related functions as may be assigned.
  • Safely cleans up and disposes of hazardous materials / accumulates hazardous waste generated during handling and cleanup of damaged products.

Qualifications/Experience:

Three year fork-lift experience in manufacturing, distribution or other environment requiring the ability to perform routine work assignments; high school diploma or G.E.D. a plus. Current forklift certification or the ability to become certified. Required advance level skills in forklift operation.

Must possess ability to work independently without direct supervision. Demonstrated skills in communication, math, and reading. Must be able to work cooperatively as part of a team. An attention to detail and the ability to work to deadlines are essential. Must have demonstrated ability to understand all SOP’s and use them as a working tool; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; mathematical aptitude; ability to meet and adhere to all attendance and hours of work requirements; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; ability to work with hands; ability to work overtime as required.

Work Environment/Physical Demands/Travel:

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in routine situations.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, reach, climb, stoop, talk, hear and see for extended periods of time; regularly lift or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds; specific vision abilities include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability work near moving machinery and/or in high precarious places and to have limited exposure to fumes or airborne particles and/or toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, risk of electrical shock, vibration, and extreme heat or cold.
  • Some travel may be required.
